      Australian Open through the years

The first edition of the Australian Open was played a whopping 118 years ago, in 1905. Then, the tournament was known as the Australasian Championships. The tennis event was held in various cities throughout Australia and New Zealand, before making Melbourne Park it’s fixed location in 1988.

This was also the year that many of the main venues in Melbourne Park were opened. Since then, well-known stadiums such as the Rod Laver Arena, John Cain Arena and Margaret Court Arena have always been the center of the Australian Open. Join fellow tennis fans in the stands for the 2024 edition. Check out all the options above.

      Melbourne Park

Australian Open is played in the state-of-the-art Melbourne Park, also known as Flinders Park. Here you can find several tennis courts, some of them with an entire stadium built around them. All the courts have one thing in common though: they’re all the iconic blue colour.

The biggest stadium in Melbourne Park is the Rod Laver Arena. This is the epicentre of the Australian Open, as only the best players go to battle here. Next, you’ve got the relatively new John Cain Arena, which was opened in 2000. And we can’t forget about the Margaret Court Arena. This stadium is named after Australian native and record title holder Margaret Court. She’s considered Australia’s most successful female tennis player.
