The football club AS Roma was founded and merged from three smaller Roman clubs: Fortitudo-Pro Roma SGS, Roman FC and SS Alba-Audace. Out of all major Roman football clubs, only Lazio refused to be a part of the new project; this proved to be the beginning of one of the fiercest inter-city rivalries in the world, the famous “Derby della Capitale.”

AS Roma Stadium

The Stadio Olimpico is the largest sports facility in Rome, Italy, seating over 70,000 spectators. It is located within the Foro Italico sports complex, north of the city. The Stadio Olimpico is the home stadium of the Roma and Lazio football clubs, and also hosts the Coppa Italia final. It was rebuilt for the 1990 FIFA World Cup and hosted the tournament’s final.

Rated as a UEFA category four stadium, it has also hosted four European Cup/Champions League finals, the most recent being the 2009 UEFA Champions League Final. Outside of football the stadium is used by the Italian national rugby union team and is Italy’s national athletics stadium. On Occasions it also hosts concerts and events.
